Course Description

Capture the beauty of the city

Course Description

Urban Life Photography is a practical course designed to train you to observe, react, and create strong images in real-life environments.

Urban photography brings together people, architecture, movement, light, atmosphere, and unexpected moments. Unlike a controlled studio shoot, you will learn how to work confidently with changing light, busy environments, moving subjects, and spontaneous moments.

Spread across 5 sessions, the course combines theory, image analysis, practical exercises, photo reviews, and two Urban Photoshoot Experiences.

The 2nd and 4th sessions will take place on location, in urban areas chosen together with the group and approved by the instructor. These experiences will challenge you to explore different environments, discover their visual potential, and create meaningful photographs in real shooting conditions.

The course goes beyond street photography. The skills you develop can later be applied to many fields, including event photography, photojournalism, travel, lifestyle, documentary, portraiture, fashion on location, social media content, commercial photography, and artistic photography intended for prints, exhibitions, galleries, or personal photographic projects.

You will also explore the approaches of influential photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, and Vivian Maier while developing your own photographic style and way of interpreting urban life.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Develop a stronger eye for observing and capturing spontaneous moments.
  • Use natural and available light creatively.
  • Create strong compositions in complex urban environments.
  • Photograph people naturally within their surroundings.
  • Work creatively with architecture, movement, reflections, shadows, and visual layers.
  • Adapt quickly to changing locations, subjects, and situations.
  • Develop visual storytelling through individual photographs and coherent series.
  • Gain confidence working on location and outside controlled studio environments.
  • Develop artistic photographs suitable for personal projects, prints, portfolios, and exhibitions.
  • Apply your skills across documentary, events, travel, lifestyle, portraiture, fashion, commercial, and artistic photography.
