Course Description

This advanced course develops a deeper mastery of cinematography, with a focus on lighting ratios, mixed color temperatures, and mood creation. Through intensive group practice, participants will refine their technical precision while learning to shape light and exposure to serve both realism and atmosphere in visual storytelling.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Build controlled lighting ratios (2:1, 4:1, 8:1) and measure contrast with a light meter.
  • Blend daylight, tungsten, and LED sources, applying correction with gels or calibrated white balance.
  • Design practical lighting setups to simulate natural and dramatic moods, such as firelight, soft daylight through windows, or harsh overheads.
  • Match exposure seamlessly across cameras and lighting setups.
  • Execute scene lighting that balances technical accuracy with creative intent.

Prerequisite: Director of Photography I (DOP 1)
